Educational Seminar on Senior Living Options Attracts Capacity Crowds
The truth. It’s what Oklahoma City homeowners have been asking for when it comes to late-in-life housing issues like reverse mortgages, 55+ senior living options, selling a house in today’s market and preparing to “stay put” in their own home as they age-in-place.
That is exactly the information that more than 100 seniors and caregivers received when attending the most recent expert panel event titled ‘The Truth About Senior Living Options.’ The seminar was standing room only, exceeding capacity for the 80-person venue and requiring expansion into additional space to accommodate the many who had not pre-registered.
Seminar attendee, Julie Peter of Northwest Oklahoma City, commented on her experience by saying, “The seminar was well attended and had a huge amount of information to digest and great coverage on senior living options. It helped us to get more clarity about what we do and don’t want when we downsize out of our two story house.”
Similarly, Mr. Gatewood of Oklahoma City said, “The moderator and seminar host had an excellent informative tone and I found the information and handouts extremely valuable.”
The monthly panel-style seminars, hosted by Buckelew Realty Group’s Mature Moves Division and OKC Mature Moves, a full service move management company, is moderated by Nikki Buckelew and features local subject matter experts who are chosen specifically for their ability and willingness to educate attendees on the often complex issues facing long-time homeowners.
“As real estate professionals, we encounter older adults on a daily basis who are doing their best to untangle the web of information being thrown at them,” said Buckelew. “It seems that our seminars are attracting attendees who are intelligent and educated, but have found themselves navigating uncharted territory and looking for answers that are real and honest rather than attempts to sell them on something. We are getting such great feedback and appreciation for our educational and informational approach to this complex and overwhelming topic.”
Panelists contributing to the February event included Julie Davis with Concordia Life Care Community, Gail Peacock with Grand Tapestry at Quail Springs, Anita Kelly with The Veraden, Paula Brooks with Brookdale Statesman, and Elizabeth with Southwest Mansions.
“The expert panelists, representing a cross section of senior living options, were hand selected due to their ability and willingness to educate seniors concerning various aspects of senior living and retirement community options in the area. They are all competent, caring and well-versed in the many issues facing downsizing seniors and their families,” stated Chris Buckelew.
The Senior Living Truth Series continues in March with “The Truth About Selling a Home: 10 Mistakes to Avoid” on March 24, followed by “The Truth About Preparing to ‘Stay Put’” on April 28, “The Truth About Downsizing” on May 26, and “The Truth About Independent Living Options: a closer look” on June 23, 2016.
